Cathedral Workshop
Ever since the Middle Ages, the Cathedral Workshop - Dombauhütte - has been dedicated to building and preserving St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna.
The workshop today is situated on the North facade of the nave - where the horse drawn coaches are - and employs 20 members of staff just like any other workshop, although it is not run on commercial lines.
The facility is funded by the annual cathedral preservation budgets, most of which are financed through donations, and the Cathedral Workshop also operates the lift to the Pummerin - revenue generated in this way is also ploughed straight back into the structural preservation of the cathedral.
